Orr “Mickey Elverum” Bog Walk
It is a ½ mile handicap accessible floating board walk that goes through 6 different wetland environments. There are interpretive signs along the way to help identify unique plants located in the bog. The trail is located directly behind the Orr Visitor’s Center in Orr, MN.
Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary
Located only 2 miles away is a great highlight of your vacation – the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary. This is the home of the American Bear Association. Come observe, take pictures and learn more about black bears in their natural habitat from a safe and elevated viewing platform. They are open from Memorial weekend through Labor day weekend (Tuesdays-Sundays 5pm-8pm). Please visit their website for additional information.
Orr City Park
Located just north of Orr (on Highway 53). Includes a fishing dock, small swimming beach, playground and picnic tables.
Gheen Hill Trail
Located 4 miles south of Orr. This is a 4.5 mile, multi-use trail is open for hiking, mountain bikers, and cross country skiers. State permit is needed for use of this trail. It is available at the Orr DNR.
Comet Theater
Located 23 miles away in Cook, MN (102 South River Street). This theater was established in 1939 and is the longest continuous running movie theater in Minnesota. Check for daily movie times.
Vermillion Falls
Located 25 miles NE of Orr. Come enjoy a short hike (1/4 mile gravel path) to watch the Vermillion falls (water dropping 100 feet into a 10 foot wide opening that empties into Crane Lake). There are picnic tables and toilet available.
Vermillion Gorge
Located 27 miles NE of Orr (combine with a visit to Vermillion Falls). The trail is located in Crane Lake just past the Voyageurs National Park office. The hike follows a 1 ½ mile gravel path with interpretative signs and can be completed in 3 hours round trip. The trail has steep climbs to overlook granite cliffs along the Vermillion River.

Soudan Underground Mine State Park
Located in Soudan (approximately 1 ½ hours away). “Slip on a hard hat and travel a half mile underground on a tour of Minnesota’s first iron ore mine. Experience the life of a miner from the last century.” Temperatures do drop to low 50’s so bring a sweater.
Public tours run daily Memorial Day weekend through September and weekends into October. Group and educational tours are available year-round.
Fortune Bay Casino
Located in Tower, MN (approximately 1 hour away). They have two floors of gaming excitement along with a restaurant and a museum of 1,000 years of Chippewa Indian culture.
